About

Auzerais Bellamy is a Brooklyn-based pastry chef, social change advocate, and founder of Blondery, a direct-to-consumer virtual bakery that specializes in a distinctive collection of handmade, bite-size blondies. Auzerais grew up in the Bay Area and after earning a degree in pastry arts and interning at Alain Ducasse’s pastry school in France, she held an impressive decade-long career in fine dining: she staged at Michelin-starred establishments The French Laundry, Daniel, and Per Se, and worked as the executive pastry chef at Pies ‘n’ Thighs and Ducasse’s Benoit Bistro.

In 2015, as the pastry sous chef at Thomas Keller’s Bouchon Bakery, Auzerais became frustrated with the lack of representation in fine dining and set out to change the industry. Auzerais found her soul as an entrepreneur and, as Blondery grows, she is creating the supportive workplace she always sought by hiring people of color and empowering them for careers in the restaurant industry.

BUSHWICK TACO COMPANY

VISIT RESTAURANT

Being a Bay Area native, I am always searching for good Mexican food. I grew up eating Mexican food almost daily and Bushwick Taco helps me to continue that habit thousands of miles away from home. Whether it be enchiladas, nachos or tacos, I am a big fan of Bushwick Taco. Everything is fresh, super yummy and authentic (to me). My go to order is the chicken enchiladas with mole sauce and extra hot sauce on the side.

GRANDCHAMPS

VISIT RESTAURANT

Grandchamps is the Haitian restaurant that introduced me to griot (pan-fried pork), djon djon (black mushroom rice), and pikliz (pickled vegetable relish). They also have a market which spotlights specialty products from Haitian and Haitian-American companies. Truly, Sabrina and Shawn are some of my favorite entrepreneurs to watch! They hire locally, champion all types of artists and really get their hands dirty within the community. Also, this may or may not surprise you but their cheeseburger is so yummy!

NATURAL BLEND RESTAURANT

VISIT RESTAURANT

I wish I could say I have a go-to order but everything is good so I typically rotate between the citrus ribs, curry and jerk chicken. Their Sea Moss drink is a must-have and I've never been disappointed by any of their smoothies or juices. I typically go to the location on Malcolm X Blvd. which is located in a teal blue building, you literally can't miss it. The best thing about this restaurant, besides the phenomenal service, is that everything is vegan!

CUTS & SLICES

VISIT RESTAURANT

Oxtail, shrimp and lobster scampi, chopped cheese, chicken and waffles — and much more, all on slices of hot pizza. I stumbled upon this shop via one of the food delivery apps when they were still new to the neighborhood, and have been hooked ever since. I am waiting for the day I have an excuse to order a whole pie, but for now my go-to order is an oxtail slice (when they have it) and a pepperoni slice.

NANA RAMEN

330 Malcolm X Blvd.

VISIT RESTAURANT

My friends always joke that whenever I start feeling any kind of illness, I order soup. There's something about warm soup that is super comforting to me so when I found Nana on yelp, I headed over and had a bowl seated at their window seat (pre-COVID times). Now, I place my order over the phone and pick-up and it's still as amazing as the first time! I love the spicy miso ramen but I also stan for their seaweed salad.

MILLIE'S CUBAN CAFE

151 Wilson Avenue

VISIT RESTAURANT

Garlic marinated roasted pork, citrus pickled onions, white rice, black beans, market greens salad and maduros. Side of spicy green sauce. I can only eat this on special occasions (because calories) but whenever I want to treat myself, this is the place! The food is so irresistibly delicious. I have never tried any of their pastries because they are always sold out by the time I get there, but I’m sure they are as amazing as the delectable food they are serving!
